Appledore Sails offers three types of sailing:

Short trips around the picturesque Torridge Taw Estuary just for yourselves on an Appledore built two masted traditional lugger, 'Jez-y-belle'.

Privately charter 'Patron', a 31 foot skippered yacht, for short trips, for a day trip to Lundy or Clovelly, for a weekend or longer.

Hire a RYA qualified commercial offshore yacht master - to move your boat, for training, or to skipper your own charter holiday.

Take a trip....

Take a trip around the bay on Jez-y-belle

Appledore Sails provides the opportunity to sail on 'Jez-y-belle' with a qualified skipper. She is a very pretty locally made traditional two masted 15 foot Appledore Ford's lugger - white hull with red sails. A couple, family or small group of friends can enjoy two to three hour trips around the Torridge Taw Estuary under sails or motor depending on weather or preference. Trips start and finish on Appledore Quay and fit in with high tide. A beautiful way to spend a summer morning, afternoon or evening, pottering up to Bideford Quay, passing Instow, sailing past Crowe Point, to Fremington Quay, or may be taking in a visit to Appledore's state of the art Tamar class lifeboat. Depending on the wind and tide, just have a relaxing time 'going with the flow'.

Charter the skippered sailing yacht Patron

Appledore Sails provides a unique opportunity to sail the Bristol Channel and further afield in a Moody 31 sailing yacht and caters for all levels of experience from the beginner to the burgeoning yachtmaster.

Patron is a Moody 31 Mk 2. A Devonshire built yacht designed for British waters. She is RYA certified for safety compliance up to 60 miles offshore and carries a liferaft, lifejackets for all on board, and a full compliment of safety equipment including GPS, chart plotter, radar, first aid kit and storm sails. She is 31 ft long, a Bermuda sloop design and her name means 'Our Protector'. She loves living up to her name!

She has a separate private double fore cabin for guests, and two guest berths in the main cabin. To ensure your privacy the separate skipper's cabin is located in the rear. Central heating, a wind generator, marine toilet, washbasin and separate sink, full cooker, settees and dining table all help towards making your trip comfortable.

What guests say:

I really enjoyed sailing down to Bideford, and around the estuary in Jez-y-belle. A beautiful, traditional little boat, sailing in her was a reminder of times past, a really memorable experience.
